What’s In A Name – Eliza Patricia Dushku

Eliza –
Origin: Shortened form of Elizabeth, although is often used as a 'stand-alone' name.
Meaning: From Elisabet, the Greek form of the Hebrew name Elisheba meaning."my God is an oath" or perhaps "my God is abundance". Also translated as ‘God is satisfaction’, interpreted as ‘satisfactory to God’ or ‘God is satisfied’ In the New Testament this is the name of the mother of John the Baptist. It was also borne by the 12th-century Saint Elizabeth, a daughter of King Andrew II of Hungary who became a Franciscan nun and lived in poverty. It was also the name of a ruling queen of England and an empress of Russia. Famous modern bearers include the British queen Elizabeth II and actress Elizabeth Taylor.
Patricia –
Origin: Latin
Meaning: ‘noble’ or ‘well born’. The name was used in Scotland and became popular in England after the birth of Princess Patricia of Connaught in 1886, grand-daughter of Queen Victoria. It became quite popular in the 1920’s and quickly became a rather popular second name, and is still frequently found as such. The earliest wave of Patricia’s liked to be known as Patsy or Patty. Those born around 1930 were usually called Pat. In the sixties, many Pats became Trish or Tricia, and these diminutive names are sometimes found as independent names.
